How Much Does an Indonesian Private Yacht Charter Cost?

A private yacht is one of the most immersive ways to explore Indonesia. The vessel becomes your hotel, restaurant, transport and activity base, moving through islands that cannot be experienced properly from a road or a single resort.

Private charter prices vary enormously. A simple adventure phinisi and a 60-meter ultra-luxury yacht may both be described online as “traditional Indonesian yachts,” yet their cabins, crew, systems and service bear little comparison.

The right question is not only “What is the nightly rate?” It is “What complete experience does that rate buy?”

Typical private-charter price ranges

Published 2026 market rates broadly span:

Yacht category — Indicative full-vessel rate — Typical characteristics * Adventure or classic phinisi — USD 2,000–5,000 per night — Comfortable cabins, local crew, meals and core activities; inclusions vary * Premium or luxury yacht — USD 5,000–15,000 per night — Higher cabin standard, more space, enhanced dining and water-sports capability * Ultra-luxury yacht — USD 15,000–35,000+ per night — Large suites, high crew ratio, premium dining, spa or expedition facilities and extensive inclusions

These are planning bands, not LEI quotations. Rates vary by vessel, destination, charter length, season, taxes and relocation. Some excellent boats fall outside the bands.

Why yacht prices vary so much

Vessel size and cabin count

A larger yacht uses more fuel and carries more crew, but it may become better value per person when a group fills the cabins. Review actual guest capacity, cabin configuration and bathroom arrangements.

Construction and systems

Air-conditioning, generators, water makers, navigation, tenders, safety equipment and stabilization or hull design all affect operating cost and comfort.

Crew and service

A cruise director, private chef, dive professionals, spa therapists, childcare support and high crew-to-guest ratio increase the rate but also shape the experience.

Destination

Raja Ampat and remote eastern routes generally cost more to operate than short Komodo itineraries because fuel, supplies and crew logistics travel farther. A vessel may also charge a relocation fee if it must reposition outside its regular seasonal program.

Activities

Diving, nitrox, jet skis, kayaking, paddleboards, fishing equipment and specialist guides may be included, limited or charged separately. Motorized water sports may be restricted within marine parks.

What is usually included?

Many private charters include:

  • Exclusive use of the yacht and cabins
  • Captain, crew and cruise director
  • Meals and snacks
  • Water, tea, coffee and soft drinks
  • Fuel for the agreed itinerary
  • Tender transfers and shore excursions
  • Snorkeling equipment and non-motorized water sports
  • Local airport or hotel transfers near embarkation

Luxury vessels may include selected alcohol, spa treatments, diving, nitrox, laundry and national-park fees. Never assume these items are included without a written quotation.

Common additional costs

  • International and domestic flights
  • Hotels before and after the charter
  • National-park, ranger and local visitor fees
  • Diving equipment, certification courses or nitrox
  • Premium alcohol and special-request products
  • Satellite communications or high-volume internet
  • Crew gratuities
  • Travel and diving insurance
  • Relocation charges or non-standard embarkation
  • Taxes or service fees not built into the base rate

A professional proposal should state every material exclusion.

Sample charter calculations

Six-night adventure yacht

At USD 3,500 per night, the base charter is USD 21,000. For ten guests, that equals USD 2,100 per person before flights, fees and exclusions. Because accommodation, meals, crew, transport and activities are bundled, compare this with the complete cost of a land itinerary rather than with a hotel room alone.

Seven-night luxury yacht

At USD 9,000 per night, the base charter is USD 63,000. For twelve guests, that is USD 5,250 per person before extras. Cabin hierarchy matters: a group should agree in advance how premium cabins are allocated.

Seven-night ultra-luxury yacht

At USD 22,000 per night, the base is USD 154,000. This category is selected for privacy, service and facilities rather than low per-person cost.

These examples are mathematical illustrations only. Current quotations may use minimum nights, package rates or different inclusions.

Private charter vs shared liveaboard

A shared liveaboard sells individual cabins and is usually more economical for one or two travelers. The route and dates are fixed, and the social areas are communal.

A private charter can become attractive for a family or group that would otherwise reserve most of a shared vessel. It provides privacy and allows the day to be adapted around children, photographers, divers or non-divers.

How many nights should you book?

Komodo can be introduced in three nights, but four to six nights provides a better pace. Raja Ampat commonly deserves seven to eleven nights because of the distances involved. Banda Sea and Spice Island expeditions may require longer fixed routes.

Shortening a remote charter does not always reduce the price proportionally, because mobilization, fuel and crew costs still apply.

How to compare yacht quotations

Create a table with these columns:

  1. Total charter price
  2. Number and type of cabins
  3. Maximum guests and crew ratio
  4. Air-conditioning hours
  5. Meals and beverage inclusions
  6. Diving and water-sports inclusions
  7. Park fees and transfers
  8. Fuel and relocation charges
  9. Cancellation terms
  10. Safety and insurance documentation

The cheapest quote may represent good value, or it may omit thousands of dollars in necessary services.

When should you book?

High-demand yachts and large family configurations can sell out many months in advance, particularly for Komodo’s popular dry-season dates and Raja Ampat’s principal season. Holiday weeks require even more notice.

Select the yacht before committing to domestic flights when the charter is the central reason for the trip.
